John Vianney the onetime parish priest of Ars, possesses a peculiar charm not only because of the gentleness and simplicity of his character but also from the fact that his life and work were confined to a great extent, to his own parish. He was neither called by God nor suited by nature to go into the noisy thoroughfares of the world or to open up fresh furrows in heathen lands to the word of God. His vocation was to remain at his post and bring healing and consolation to all who came to him.
