The Messenger will be promoting at Parishes throughout the country from February 20, 2010. Regional co-ordinators Elizabeth Foley and Gaye Adams will be delighted to meet with you at this time. Messenger Publications hosted the launch of Mary Brady’s tastefully designed book on bereavement, Time Without You, moving through the rooms of grief on Thurs Jan 21 in Manresa, Jesuit Centre of Spirituality in Clontarf, Dublin.
Through the Bethany Bereavement Support Group, of which Myles O’Reilly S.J. is chaplain, Mary approached Messenger Publications with her idea and some preliminary drafts. The MJP team worked closely with the author to capture the essence of her dream, offering a record of her journey through grief and the many ways in which she tried to deal with the pain and make sense of the loss of her husband. “What was evident from the first meeting”, says Triona McKee, manager of MJP “was the process of catharsis that Mary journeyed through and the soul bearing honesty with which she was prepared to share her most testing moments in the hope that it would offer a glimmer of light and encourage those struggling through the confusion and pain of bereavement.” The short book is interspersed with Mary’s own artwork, from pencil drawings to oil and mixed media on canvas, charcoals, sculptures and embroidery, as well as diary entries and poetry.

Jesuit Missions Haiti Fund
In response to the earthquake that has recently devastated Haiti, Jesuit Missions (British Province) is launching an appeal for emergency relief in solidarity with the great many whose lives have been affected. The country, already among the world's most severely poverty-stricken, must now also contend with widespread displacement, loss of life and crippling infrastructural damage. The British Province of the Society of Jesus has already pledged £100,000.00 and, with your support, we hope to substantially increase this figure. The funds will be urgently channelled through our Jesuit contacts in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Unlike others who are trying to help the stricken people of Haiti, we already have an infrastructure on the ground, and so can channel funds more effectively. With the assistance of imported doctors, five crisis centres have been opened and a further two are soon to be operational.Please give whatever you can in support of those in such desperate need.
